About Be A Hero Australia

Dare to dream on behalf of the children...

Be A HERO Australia was founded in January 2006 and to date is helping nearly 1000 children (if you can count them all) in Nyahururu (Kenya), Poipet (Cambodia), Ndola (Zambia), Burma, Manila (The Philippines), Telpura (India), Chivu (Zimbabwe) - children living in children’s homes, community schools, children rescued from the streets of Cambodia who have suffered terrible inhumanities at the hands of others in order to get something to eat.

We believe that being a hero is every day for everyone.  Be A Hero Australia exists to create heroes out of ordinary people by providing them with opportunities to change the world one child at a time.  To be a voice for the children who don’t have one.

Why Be A HERO?

It's vision is to show you how you can transform the lives of the 1.2 billion “children at risk” due to poverty, child labour, slavery, homelessness, sexual exploitation, AIDS, plagues and war.

In agreement with the United Nations’ “Convention on the Rights of a Child”, we affirm that all children have the right to:

·         Love and security

·         Food

·         Survival and development

·         Parental care

·         A decent place to live

·         Health and health services

·         Protection from abuse

·         Education

·         Rest and leisure

In partnership with proven, seasoned organisations we fight to save dying children by helping communities develop infrastructure (clean water supply, water treatment facilities, education and vocational training facilities, medical clinics, children’s homes, schools); sponsoring children; develop micro-enterprises, health education and vocational training programs (crop growing, sewing, metal and wood work); advocacy; prayer; and arranging “Hero Holidays” for people to see first-hand the desperate situation that many of our world’s children live in and how the funds they have raised have helped the children.

Be A HERO provides compassionate people with step-by-step directions on how to gather those in their sphere of influence and, together do something life-saving and life-transforming and to equip and help you to make a difference using your own ideas, creativity and resources.  We are only limited by our imaginations!

How Can I Be A HERO?

There are some steps that you can take to make a difference in the life of a child…

1.     Join the Hero Army as a financial member from $15.00 a month or any other regular contribution

2.     Sponsor a child from $33.00 a month

3.     Raise funds to make a difference in the life of a child through your sphere of influence (sports, school, work).  We have partnerships with some companies who run fund-raising presentations to support the work of Be A Hero Australia

4.      Become an advocate for children at risk and become a voice for children who have no voice  (tell everyone about the plight of children and find out how to be a part of seeing the Millennium Development Goals achieved)

5.     Join the Prayer Network

6.      Go on a Hero Holiday

7.     Shop “care-fully” (buy products made under fair and just working conditions without slavery or child labour (chocolate, coffee, tea, clothing, gifts go to www.beaheroaustralia.org to find out more)

8.     Facilitate Operation:  Educate A Child in your school.  This is a program run by Australian students to gather school supplies and equipment for children in overseas community schools.  DHL have partnered with Be A Hero Australia to ship the supplies to the children for free.

9.     Get your work place involved.

Is Be A Hero Really Making a Difference?

In partnership with Heroes of the Nation, Nyahururu, Kenya…

My name is Joseph Mbugua.  I was born on 19 September, 1992.  I live at the Heroes of the Nation Nyahururu children’s home.  My father died from liver problems and my mother suffered a heart attack.  I have two brothers and two sisters who are at my grandmother’s.  I like to play football and would like to be a doctor.

Joseph is an amazing young man who is now ranked #10 in his region after regional exams.  He enjoys playing basketball, has many friends and is a leader among his peers and 3 meals a day.

In partnership with Cambodia Hope Organisation, Poipet, Cambodia…

These are 11 of the 20 children who have been rescued from the streets of Cambodia.  3 youth groups in South Australia gave the money they would normally spend on “chips and coke” to help the children in Poipet.

Through Be A Hero Australia’s partnership with Cambodia Hope Organisation, the children will be loved instead of abused, receive an education instead of being forced to work in situations no person should have to face, a future instead of malnutrition, hope instead of hopelessness and an opportunity to lead the way for their nation …
