So what exactly is this little white package with its clear ball? Well, it's "Nothing". That little clear ball is packed with A-grade, first-quality, five-star Nothing. Like the packaging says, the Gift of Nothing is for "the person who has everything". Now, when you ask, "what would you like for your birthday/Christmas/[insert occasion here]?" and they say "Nothing" - you can finally give it to them!
Ooh, but hang on - think we may be experiencing a zen moment here - that also means, that once you give them the Gift of Nothing, they will no longer need it. They will never again be able to answer in the same way - because they already have it. Whoa dude, that's heavy, like two black holes colliding or something. I think we may have just created a tear in the very fabric of the universe (or not...)
Is it frivolous? (Possibly a little.) Is it ridiculous? (Probably alot.) Or is it just so damned deep, your mind can't bend itself around the concept? (Umm...sorry, what was the first question?)
We may not have irreversibly altered the time/space continuum - but we have solved the ultimate gift giving dilemma!
And the Gift of Nothing may actually give the receiver a few zen moments of their own - like the packaging says "Allow nothing to flow through your mind and calm your soul".
It's thoughts like that - and this, "Nothing is precious. Nothing is simple. Nothing is sacred." that make the Gift of Nothing really something. We just haven't worked out what yet!
And if you happen to be on the receiving end of one of these, it's not often you can say "Thanks for nothing" and really mean it.
