The humble resistance band is so economical, simple to use and easily transportable that it is often overlooked, but the benefits of adding it to your routine are numerous.

Resistance bands work by wrapping the bands around parts of the body or securing them around weights to provide natural and variable resistance against muscle movement. When using free weights there is a limit to the angles of use and the way that resistance is applied (IE. gravity applies more pressure on the up swing and less on the down swing of a bicep curl). With bands the resistance is more constant and the variable angles allows greater control during stretching or training.

Targeting the muscles you can direct your efforts more effectively. By isolating muscles during stretching you can halve your warm up time and be sure that you have warmed up correctly. By isolating the muscles during strength training you can work on evening up unbalanced strength and building where you want it the most.
